Welcome to our Belize Mission Trip Ministry Page!
Bored with gray skies and cold temperatures? Like to feel some warm breezes and sun on your face? Well, set your plans aside and come along!! Verna Hopkins, Dawn & Adam Sweatt, and Carlo & Margie Hansen are all off for a short trip to Belize where there certainly will be a respite from the cold of an Illinois winter with the green lushness of a tropical climate.
Did you know that the mean January/February temperature in Belize is 75 F? (Average high of 80 and low of 70.)
This mini-mission team is going to Belize as part of the mission effort at Concord. The church has been sending mission teams to Belize since July 2003 and has had the excitement, pleasure, and sweat of being involved in “hands on” ministry in areas as diverse as teaching vacation Bible School to carrying buckets of rock to make cement. In the process, Cornerstone Presbyterian High School has been raised from an empty field to a functioning high school which now has grades 9, 10 and 11. The summer 2006 plans call for building the rooms which will accommodate the 12thgrade. The mission team has also had the wonderful experience of working with the people of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in San Jose, Belize in many diverse projects such as painting, putting in a ceiling in the main church building, installing fence posts surrounding the church property, teaching Bible books and helping to start a women’s Bible study.
Throughout this time of ministry, the Lord has used the mission trips to connect Concord families with families in Belize, to connect people more closely at Concord, to show all of us that the Lord’s adopted children extend across all borders and barriers.
It is always good to visit our Christian brothers and sisters in Belize and it is exciting to see how the Lord has brought us together and used us to teach His Word and to show His love through various service projects. The mini mission team plans to stay in Orange Walk and also in Christo Rey while ministering for the most part with Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in San Jose Village. Ministry work during the week long visit will include Bible teaching, teaching women to knit purses, diabetes education, repair/building projects, and visitation with village families.
Will the team miss the Illinois cold? Are you kidding?
